Catalogues of the BSH Library

The holdings of the BSH Library are recorded in 2 catalogues:

OPAC - Online Public Access Catalogue

All library acquisitions since 1993 are included in this web-based catalogue. Earlier acquisitions are retrospecctively added to the OPAC on an continuing basis.


IPAC - Image Public Access Catalogue

The IPAC contains library acquisitions from 1875 to 1992. During this period new acquisitions were recorded in printed books (until 1934) and on catalogue cards (until 1992). These catalogue books and catalogue cards were digitised and the entries made searchable.

Since its foundation in 1868 the library of the BSH and its predecessor institutions (Deutsche Seewarte, Deutsches Hydrographisches Institut, Seehydrographischer Dienst) has been collecting books, charts and other items on the following topics. Over time, a unique collection of maritime literature with 170,000 items and 50,000 nautical charts has been created.
