Acquisition and administration of media

  • Purchase, exchange, gifts, interlibrary loans
  • Financial auditing, registration of media using specialised library software
  • Add media to the electronic library catalogue to facilitate search

Loan, consultation, research

  • Provision of media, accounting, issuing of library cards
  • Provision of information and advice to library users, information brokerage
  • Use of printed and digital information and communication resources for research purposes

Organisation and administration

  • Handling of library notices and reminders
  • Maintenance of the library’s collection
  • Support of public relations work and guided tours

Requirements

  • Satisfactory school-leaving qualifications, with a focus on German and English
  • Excellent verbal and eloquent writing skills
  • Basic IT skills and interest in the use of advanced technology to convey information
  • Good communication skills, ability to work in a team
  • High level of commitment, ability to cope with stress
  • Outgoing personality, sense of responsibility

Job prospects

  • Work in communal libraries or in scientific libraries at universities or research institutions, public service libraries, museum libraries, industrial enterprise or service sector libraries, church libraries, libraries of associations, societies or publishing houses
  • With a higher education entrance qualification, you may study library and information management and earn a bachelor’s degree
