Definition of wreck search

In addition to hydrographic surveying, wreck search is an important instrument for increasing the safety of shipping on German waters.

All known underwater obstacles in the North Sea and Baltic Sea are regularly investigated and mapped and presented in the nautical charts (paper, ENC). Of particular interest in the investigations are the location/position and the shallowest depth of the object. The current condition and environmental settings (Kolk et cetera) are also important for a precise assessment of the hazardous situation and serve as a basis for further investigations of the underwater obstacle in the future.
