Notices to Mariners

Correction of charts and publication of the BSH

Mariners are requested to use the current editions of the nautical charts and publications, correct them continuously and keep them up to date. All changes that have occurred after the publication of a nautical chart or publication can be found in the Notices to Mariners (NfS). They contain corrections and reports on measures and events of major or supra-regional importance.

The NfS correct only the latest editions of the official German nautical charts and publications listed in the catalogue of nautical charts and publications (german). They also contain communications and regulations from authorities insofar as they are of importance for the navigation of ships or are prescribed by law.

The annual supplement of the "Nachrichten für Seefahrer" contains an overview of the nautical information service. In addition, this supplement contains important information and communications, which are updated annually.

Paid digital or printed NfS editions

The NfS are published weekly in both printed and digital form. The news for seafarers in digital form have the same price as the printed edition: 3.50 € for the single issue/12.00 € for one month.

Mariners are requested to carry the current and NfS volumes of the two previous years on board (in accordance with the equipment guidelines - SchSV). For this reason, the 2018 and 2017 annual edition can be obtained as a service separately on CD at the price of € 170.00 per annual edition.

Free excerpts or summaries from the NfS issues

  This overview is enclosed with the first NfS issue of each year. It contains information on the Navigational Warning System, nautical publications, the Central Command for Maritime Emergencies (CCME) and Maritime Emergency Reporting and Assessment Centre (MERAC) and further information.
