The FINO -database provides oceanographic and meteorological data collected at the three FINO -stations in the North and Baltic Sea.

The FINO -Wind project has developed a standardized automated quality control with subsequent manual post-control of the meteorological data for all FINO stations. These quality-controlled data sets are now available in the FINO -database. Further information can be found on the DWD-website and in our press release.
Generally applies:
English names of the meteorological parameters: for all FINO stations (independent of the measuring institute) standardized quality-controlled data
German names for the meteorological parameters: manually quality control of the measuring institutes (depending on the measuring institute)

Information on the database
Dear FINO data user,
The FINO data are now accessible via the “Insitu Portal”. In addition to the access to the FINO data, it is possible to download data from the extensive collection of datasets of the monitoring network of the BSH .
To use the application, please register .
Assistance and information regarding the registration is available.
After successful registration, you can use the “Insitu Portal”. For access please login and choose the “Insitu” application.
The former FINO -database will be suspended soon.

Information on using the FINO database
Use of the FINO database is free of charge.
General terms and conditions still apply when using the database.
We request informal feedback in the event of a publication containing FINO data. Each user must agree to these conditions.
Data format
The data export provides a single *.dat file for each selected parameter.
The *.dat file contains a header (marked with #). This gives information about the selected FINO station, the selected parameter, its unit and the titles of the data columns (for example: Time, Value, Minimum, Maximum, Variance, Quality). Subsequently the data follows. The date-time format is as follows: yyyy-mm-dd HH:MM:SS (year-month-day hour:minute:second). The values are tab-separated. If there are no entries for a column (for example: Minimum), this column does not exist. The dummy values -999 mean that the values are missing.
Quality flags
Oceanography:
A range test and a spike test were performed to assess the quality of the oceanographic data. Values that did not pass the tests were replaced by dummy values (-99.99 or -999.99).
