Marine use

Symbolic image of marine use: Areas of the Exclusive Economic Zone

Precise data on the marine environment and seabed are the crucial basis for use and transport planning in the North and Baltic Seas. Through close-meshed surveying of the fairways and marine areas with our own survey vessels, we can provide a comprehensive database.

Possible effects of wind turbines on the marine environment are comprehensively investigated during the planning phase of offshore projects in the North and Baltic Seas. These biological data from the environmental assessment form the scientific basis for studies on the marine environment. During the construction of offshore projects, the BSH monitors compliance with the specifications and limits for noise input into the marine environment. The aim of these measures is to protect the habitat of marine animals, especially harbour porpoises, from the effects of intense pile driving noise.
