Sea state
Current measurements in North Sea and Baltic Sea
The purpose of the measurements is to gather wave data serving the following purposes:
- Safety in shipping, ferry services, surveying operations and information services,
- Continual verification of the numerical wave forecasting model of the German Weather Service (DWD),
Verification of model results for future climate development,
General description of wave conditions and wave climate.
The measured values on the map are uncorrected raw data.

- WESTERLAND / SYLT is a measuring station of the Landesbetrieb für Küstenschutz, Nationalpark und Meeresschutz
- The FINO measurements are part of Germanischer Lloyd's offshore wind farm investigations

Current forecasts in North Sea and Baltic Sea
With its numerical models, the German Weather Service (DWD) calculates a forecast for wind and waves several times a day.
For the German Bight and the western Baltic Sea we provide this wave forecast of the German Weather Service.
