The Federal Freedom of Information Act (IFG) has been in force since 1 January 2006. Under the Act, all German citizens are entitled to access information from public authorities unless access is restricted by certain exemptions. To obtain access, reasons stating legal, economic or other interests need not be provided. Fees may be charged for the information provided. For more information, please refer to the ordinance on fees payable under the Federal Freedom of Information Act.
