The testing laboratory of the BSH tests the suitability of navigation and radio-communication equipment for shipboard use and their on-board performance on the basis of international and national standards.
Type testing is carried out upon request. An application has to be filed by the equipment manufacturer or his authorized representative established within the Community, and an EC- or national certificate is issued after successful completion of the tests.
In January 1999, the testing laboratory of the department Maritime Shipping of the BSH was accredited in accordance to the european standard EN 45001 and was assigned the status of a notified body , since 01 March 2009 BSH -Cert, entitled to carry out conformity
assessments (sea Certification) of Navigation and Radio-communication equipment, in accordance with EC Directive 96/98 on Marine Equipment.
Approvals in accordance with Marine Equipment Directive annex A.1 granted by the BSH / BSH-Cert are valid in the entire EC. Since April 2002 the accreditation based on the international standard DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
BSH-Cert carries out inspections at manufacturing plants to verify the conformity of currently produced Navigation and Radio-communication equipment with approved types.
General information on the validity of Certificates of Conformity according to Directive 96/98/EC.
