Within the framework of a Federal financial programme to promote German shipping, financial aid has been granted since the end of 2001
in order to reduce the non wage labour costs of EU mariners working on board German flagged ships operating in international trade.
This is the German Government’s contribution to the so-called“ alliance for employment and training“. The purpose of the financial aid is to
maintain the jobs of mariners on board German merchant ships and to secure maritime know-how in Germany.
