On 10 July 2001, the EU Commission adopted an amendment to Annexes A.1 and
A.2 of the Directive on Marine Equipment (
Directive 2001/53/EC,
published in the Official Journal of the European Communities L204 of 28 July 2002).
This Directive entered into force in Germany on 1 February 2002. From the date of its entry into force, only equipment complying with
Directive 2001/53/EC is allowed to be placed on board sea-going vessels.
On 2 September 2002, the EU Commission adopted another amendment to Annexes A.1 and A.2 of the Directive on Marine Equipment (
Directive 2002/75/EC
, published in the Official Journal of the European Communities L254 of 23 September 2002). This Directive will enter into force in Germany on 23 March 2003.
Equipment manufactured prior to the entry into force of Directive 2002/75/EC and approved according to Directive 2001/53/EC is allowed to be placed on board sea-going vessels within a period of maximally two years after Directive 2002/75/EC has entered into force.
Amendment to the Marine Equipment Directive (2008/67/EC, MED)
On 30 June 2008 EU, Commission adopted the 4th amendment to the Directive on Marine Equipment Directive
2008/67/EC, published in the Official Journal of the European Communities L171 of 01 July 2008.
Directive will enter into force on 21 July 2009.
Relevant changes are:
- cancellation of the transitional period for equipment already listed in annex A.1, e.g. in case of a revision of standards
- applicability of IMO performance standards or testing standards as amended
- updates of marine equipment and applicable standards in A.1 and A.2

Amendment to the Marine Equipment Directive (2009/26/EC, MED)
On 06 April 2009 EU, Commission adopted the 5th amendment to the Directive on Marine Equipment Directive
2009/26/EC, published in the Official Journal of the European Communities L113/1 of 05 May 2009.
Directive will enter into force on 06 April 2010.
Relevant changes are:
- updates of marine equipment and applicable standards in A.1 and A.2
