In order for a vessel to be registered/re-registered under the German
flag, an application (Word- or PDF-file, only in German) has to be submitted
for the issue of a new tonnage measurement certificate, enclosing a copy of
the existing International Tonnage Certificate (1969).
Existing tonnage certificates for the SUEZ and PANAMA Canals generally continue
to be valid after a flag change provided that there have been no conversions
or changed use of compartments or spaces.
Such tonnage certificates can be issued by the BSH for all flags after re-measurement.
