Nord Stream Gas Pipeline

Nord Stream AG is planning to lay two high-pressure gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea from Vyborg, Russia, across the Baltic Sea to the German landfall station in Lubmin. The company is planning to build two pipelines of 1,200 mm diameter each, with a total length of 1,220 km. The pipelines will be routed southwest of Bornholm across the German continental shelf and will run in southwesterly direction, through the German territorial sea including Greifswalder Bodden to the Lubmin landfall station.

Because of the planned length and diameter of the pipelines to be laid in the territorial sea and on the continental shelf of Germany, an Environmental Impact Assessment is required under Art. 43, Energy Management Act (EnWG) as amended on 7 July 2005 (BGBl I (Federal Law Gazette) 2005, p. 1970 (3621), and Art. 133, para. 1, No. 2,  Federal Mining Act (BBergG) as amended on 13 August 1980 (BGBl I 1980, p. 1310), last amended by section 37 of the Act of 21 June 2005 (BGBl. I p. 1818)  in connection with Art. 3, para 1, sentence 1, in connection with Annex 1, No. 19.2.1 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (UVPG) in the version of the notification of 25 June 2005 (BGBl. I, p. 1757, p. 2797), amended by Art. 4 of the Act of 15 July 2006 (BGBl. I, p. 1619).
