As a basis for ice climatological studies, 13 representative stations which adequately reflect the specific ice conditions in the coastal region were selected from the long-term monitoring network on the German Baltic Sea coast. By clicking on a station name, the characteristic data for the particular station are displayed. From the sum of data recorded at the stations, indices characterising the severity of an ice winter are computed. Ice winter severity is expressed by the reduced sum of ice or the accumulated areal ice volume. The time series shown give an impression of the year-to-year variability of ice winters and possible long-term development trends. The chart shows the German Baltic Sea coast with the 13 ice climatological stations.
