From the co-ordinate triples obtained, a chart - the so-called topographic map of the sea floor - is produced using the programme system CARIS. Besides depth data, it contains the following information:
- General information
- co-ordinate grid (surveys and charts)
- Quantities measured
- Quantities derived
- Additional information
- coastlines
- lettering
- aids to navigation
- underwater obstructions
- fixed points
The following picture shows a section of this chart. The topographic map of the sea floor is normally, with a few exceptions, produced on scales ranging from 1:5 000 to 1:100 000. Its scale is at least twice that of the corresponding nautical chart. The analogue topographic map is produced in colour and black-and-white
and can be bought via BSH distribution agencys.
It is also available as PDF-File.
