Meteorological forcing data from the German Weather Service

The meteorological forcing data needed to run the ocean forecasts at BSH are provided by the German Weather Service (DWD) several times a day. Results from the weather prediction model ICON from the global grid as well as from the local grid refinement over Europe are used at present. The maximum forecast length is 7 days. Surface wind and air pressure are the most important forcing fields, however, air temperature, cloud coverage and specific humidity are needed as well.
All data are sent to servers at BSH sites in Hamburg and Rostock to achieve the best failsafe performance.
