The BSH is very active on the international stage. Measures aimed at improving,
for example, the safety of navigation or the effectiveness of marine environmental
protection can only be implemented successfully in a joint effort made by the
community of nations. The BSH is actively engaged in more than 20 international
organisations where it contributes, in co-operation with the other nations,
to the development of uniform standards and regulations - a field of activity
which has high priority at the BSH.
In order to develop and optimize our range of products, we co-operate closely
with our foreign partners. Based on numerous bilateral agreements, the official
nautical charts carrying the blue BSH logo have a coverage extending across
nearly all European sea areas from Scandinavia to Gibraltar.
Some important international organisations to whose work we contribute:
EuroGOOS: Association
of European maritime institutions contributing to the development of a Global
Ocean Observing System (GOOS)
HELCOM Convention on the Protection
of the Marine Environment of the Baltic Sea Area (Helsinki Convention)
ICES: International Council for the Exploration of
the Sea
IHO: International Hydrographic Organization
IMO: International Maritime Organization
IOC: Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission
OSPAR: Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment
of the North-East Atlantic (OSPAR Convention)
