Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Plankton and benthos sampling using different gears to obtain insight in the composition and taxa diversity of benthic organisms covering all size classes (nanofauna, meiofauna, macrofauna, megafauna) from three Azorean islands (Flores, Terceira, Santa Maria) and two seamounts (Princess Alice Bank, Formigas Bank). Moreover, plankton productivity is studied and shall be related to the benthic components. Last, not least, sedimentological studies will provide insight into the relation between marine and terrestrial influences in the sediment formation. The results will be compared with those obtained from other Atlantic islands (Madeira, Porto Santo, Desertas) and seamounts (Seine Seamount, Ampere Seamount, Great Meteor Seamount, Sedlo Seamount, Senghor Seamount).
