Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The major objectives during R/V Heincke cruise 387 were, to use hydroacoustic techniques (multibeam EM 710, fish finder EK 60) in order to map the distribution of gas bubble emissions at the continental margin west of Spitzbergen. Using the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Cherokee, we intended to map and quantify bubble streams at the seafloor in order to estimate the flux of methane into the ocean. The objectives were largely fulfilled, about 1920 nauticle miles of hydroacoustic surveys were acquired as well as nine ROV dives. We could map the distribution of gas emissions and quantified several bubble streams.
