Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The 2010 Winter Crangon Survey (WCS) is part of a time series started in 1991 to monitor regional distribution and abundance of brown shrimp (Crangon crangon) in wintertime in the German Bight and adjacent areas along Danish and Dutch coasts. SOLEA cruise 616 was the second of two cruises in that programme in 2010. Depth of hauls ranged between 11 and 43 m and showed patchiness of the shrimp abundance with generally low catches. Side aspects of the cruise were catch efficiency trials using a wider cod end mesh of 24 mm compared to the standard net with nominal 20 mm mesh size in the cod end of some parallel hauls. Besides shrimp all by-catch taxa were registered by species and weight as well as by numbers caught, partly sub sampling. The survey resulted in records of 30 fish species and 16 "standard" invertebrates. 61 stations were sampled and CTD data were collected at each station. Together with SOLEA cruise 615 WCS resulted in 121 stations fished in 2010.
