Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The 2009 Winter Crangon Survey (WCS) is part of a time series started in 1990 to monitor regional distribution and abundance of brown shrimp (Crangon crangon) in wintertime in the German Bigth and adjacent areas along Danish and Dutch coasts. Besides that depth effects were of importance showing extremly low abundances of shrimp below 40 m and absence of the species below 50 m of depth whereas high abundances were found along German and Danish coasts between 20 and 25 m. Side aspects of the cruise were catch efficiency trials using a tickler chain in some parallel hauls. Besides shrimp all by-catch taxa were registered by species and weight as well as by numbers caught, partly subsampling. The survey resulted in records of 37 fish species and 12 "standard" invertebrates. At each station CTD data were collected. 69 stations were sampled adding up to 107 stations with the previous cruise (599. SOLEA) belonging to the same WCS programme.
