Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Monitoring and research on long-term changes in the Baltic macrozoobenthos communities. The work is a part of long-term macrobenthos studies started in 1965, and include the annual HELCOM zoobenthos monitoring. Analysis of the main hydrographical parameters, especially oxygen and salinity changes and fluctuations, in the water below the halocline will be done. Limited water nutrient analyses will also be performed. Methods: Van Veen grab and box-corer for zoobenthos sampling, echosounding for positioning, CTD-casts for hydrography information and water samples for the O2 - and nutrient-analyses. A core sampler is used to take sediment samples for determining the organic content of the sediment. Water and surficial sediment is also collected for the monitoring of radioactive substances (HELCOM-MORS).
