Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

This course was given to undergraduates of the departments of Geography and Geology UCD in the techniques of marine geochemistry, shipborne seafloor mapping and sub-bottom profiling. The main aim of the course was to provide training in the acquisition, gridding and interpretation of multibeam bathymetric data, the acquisition of high-resolution seismic profiles of the seafloor and measurement of key water column variables important in modulating sonar and seismic wave characteristics (water temperature, salinity and pressure). The course also aimed to increase the level of interest and experience amongst undergraduates in the whole sphere of marine research.
