Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Geophysical experiments along the continental margin of East Greenland to enhance the understanding on breakup processes during the separation of Greenland and Scandinavia some 55 Ma. The survey was focussed to acquire geophysical data north of 77?N by MCS seismics, multibeam, magnetics, and gravity measurements. The sympagic (=ice-associated) community comprising viruses, bacteria, protists (unicellular algae, auto- and heterotrophic flagellates, ciliates) and metazoans (meio- and macrofauna) was studied with the physical, chemical and biological properties on 5 ship-based ice stations on Arctic pack ice floes. The vertical and horizontal distribution of mesozooplankton in the marginal ice zone of Fram Strait was studied by multiple opening/closing nets.
