Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

1. CCAMLR: Assesment of stock sizes of commercially exploitable fish stocks in given areas. Collection of biological material to study age, growth, reproduction, feeding of abundant fish stocks. Mesoscale distribution of fish stocks, feeding habits, population structure and pollution loads 2. ANDEEP: A series of biological deep sea investigations. Baseline survey of the deep-water faunas of the Scotia and Weddell Seas. Main objectives to investigate: (a.) the evolutionary processes and oceanographic changes responsible for biodiversity and distributional patterns in the Antarctic deep-sea (b.) the influence of sea-floor habitat and production on species and generic diversity by systematic and molecular tools. (c.) the colonisation and exchange processes of the deep-sea fauna in relation to changes in seabed geography over geological time.
