Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

One aim of the cruise was investigation of distributions of selected bacterial communities and bacterial diversity in the pelagic environment and surface sediment of the Central Baltic Sea. Especially heterotrophic bacteria, ammonia oxidising and methane oxidising bacteria were investigated. Activities of the latter bacterial groups were measured at different depths of the Gotland Deep. The composition of bacterial communities will be analysed by means of 16S r DNA, respresentetive organisms were isolated by enrichment cultures. The Gotland Deep was the main research area including a drift station with diurnal investigations within the euphotic zone as well as investigations of theoxilanoxic interface.
