Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The aim of the MATER research project is to co-ordinate physical and chemical oceanographic observations on the subsurface (both intermediate and deep) water mass formation and spreading to the assessment of the biogeochemical processes controlling their signatures, which allow their pathways in the Mediterranean sub basins to be traced. The Work Pakage 3 Multidisciplinary studies in the Adriatic Ionic Subbasin, in particular is focused on the area including the Southern Adriatic and the Northern part of the Ionian basin.The main purposes of the first cruise, were to carry out an hydrological and sedimentological survey in the study area and to deploy 6 moorings equipped with sediment traps and current meters.
