The collections and the information services in Hamburg and Rostock are open to all scientists, researchers, historians, students and to the general public. You may borrow books, journals and other media. The Hamburg library is a closed access library which means the books will be brought to you by a member of the library staff. The Rostock library is an open access library.

The loan period for books is four weeks, that for periodicals and boating literature two weeks.

Renewal by phone is possible if nobody else has made a reservation for the book or periodical concerned. You could also renew the loan period online via the OPAC. There will be a hint if a renewal is not possible. On the starting page of the OPAC you will find a detailed instruction (in german).

The using of the library is free of charge.

To sign in at the library, please bring your identity card.

Literature enquiries, consultations and lending are possible during our opening hours. Please make an appointment if you would like to visit the library out of opening hours.

You can also make enquiries by phone, letter or e-mail.
