In 1996, the BSH library at Hamburg started collecting literature on European and international waters that are of interest to German recreational boaters and skippers.

The focus of this boating literature collection is on harbour pilots, descriptions of sailing areas, and route planning literature.

The collection is continually updated and stocked up with literature provided amongst others by Hamburger Segler-Verband, a regional organization of Deutscher Segler-Verband (DSV) and several publishers.

This enables recreational boaters to obtain the most recent information on particular sailing areas. The books may be read at the Hamburg library or borrowed for two weeks.

Boaters also have access to the BSH's small craft charts, nautical charts and nautical publications as well as to a wide range of international nautical literature.

You will find more information on sport shipping on numerous websites.
