Subsidies to reduce ancillary labour costs

Subsidies to reduce ancillary labour costs of seafarers on ships operating under the German flag in international traffic have been granted within the framework of financial support for German ocean shipping by the federal government. The amount of subsidies depends on the number, qualification and on-board capacity of seafarers entitled to the financial support scheme.

Accounting

Recipients of subsidies for ancillary labour costs are accountable. As a principle, account must be given within six months after the period of payment, at the latest by 30 June of the following year.

Financial support of training opportunities

Since 1995 the federal government supports the creation of training opportunities on board of ships operated under the flag of Germany or of another EU-member state. Training opportunities for ship mechanics as well as for navigational and engineering assistant officers are subsidised by lump sums per vocational training position.

Accounting

Recipients of subsidies for vocational training positions are accountable within six months after the training has been completed.
